Body By Vi "Vitality" 90 Day Challenge Party

I started on my Visalus Body By Vi 90 Day Challenge a month ago after topping the scales at 205 - the heaviest I have ever been. Thirty days later, weighing twelve pounds lighter and two sizes smaller around the waist, I decided to check on what this movement is all about by joining a group of my Grand Rapids friends whose lives have been transformed by the challenge.

Losing twelve pounds is not an easy feat. It's practically a heavy bowling ball wrapped around my gut that I've been supporting with my forty-something knees and out of shape body. In four short weeks, I traded in my new 36-inch
jeans for a 34. But the best is the whole new confidence I gained by simply challenging myself to replace two big meals with two shakes a day, a couple of supplements, regular boxing sessions and the simple desire to succeed in being healthier and eventually achieving my goal of getting back to my wedding weight in 90 days.

There are three ways to get involved with the challenge. The first is too simply take the challenge as a customer. The second is to be a customer and ask three friends to take the challenge with you so you could get your products for free. Lastly, is to become a Promoter by doing 1 & 2 and work hard to get your friends and family to take on the challenge with you - and make money at the same time.

At the time of Vitality in Orlando, I was just a customer who wanted to lose weight and become healthier. This health and income movement is still in its infancy. Visalus is exponentially growing in its two years since starting the 90 day challenge. What I love about the idea is that my testimony is my product. The rate of obesity in this country is out of control and the need for people to change their lifestyles is at a critical point.

The three-day conference was topped with a black and white party for the 6,000 guests in attendance. What was amazing is to hear the dozens of testimonies I heard about how people lost so much weight during their 90 day challenge. It was inspiring. Another amazing thing was the number of attendees who qualified for their BMW allowance from the company - over 1,000 of the 6,000 guests!

I dabbled on the idea on whether to take this challenge to the next level by becoming a Promoter. After much thought and consideration, I decided this weekend to be a Promoter. I cannot wait to see what I will look like once I complete my challenge. I am definitely accountable now that I have shared my plan with everyone. What have I got to lose? Pounds!

If you are up for a 90 day challenge to lose weight and become healthier, check out my Body By Vi site (TheSuiteLife.bodybyvi.com) or email me directly so I could give you some more information. In the meantime, I have also started a new blog which documents my challenge. Check it out at WeddingWeight90.

If this foodie can do it, you certainly can do the same.

Banrai Sushi (Orlando)

I was attending the Visalus Vitality Conference in Orlando when a good friend hosted our group for sushi at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort.  The resort offers a selection of dining options including sushi at Banrai Sushi, located next to the main lounge. Banrai Sushi is not a destination restaurant as it primarily caters to resort guests. Frankly, the interior of
the restaurant looks like an extension of the lounge except for the small sushi bar.

The restaurant was slammed immediately after we managed to find two four-top tables to fit our party of 14  people. The food took forever to arrive. I watched the chef and his crew of two whip out dishes of sushi like clockwork, but the sheer number of orders were too much despite their valiant efforts. However, the plates of sushi were delicious once our server finally got around to serving us.

I would probably return to Banrai Sushi, though, only if I was a guest of the resort. I am sure there are better options for sushi in Orlando. Do you have any recommendations?

Clark Retirement Community LipDub from Clark LipDub on Vimeo.

I live just a few blocks from Clark Retirement Community in East Grand Rapids and I just had to post this funny video of Clark's amazing residents. This is definitely more my style of a retirement home. Congratulations to CRC and also the students of GVSU for this AARP Approved Cool Video.

World Cup Fever

I don't know about you but today's dramatic come from behind victory by the USA's women's World Cup team against Brazil got me so pumped up at the the world's most popular sport. I wished I could have been in a bar somewhere to celebrate this miraculous victory.

I got hooked into watching the World Cup after France's victory at home in 1998. I was cheering for France as Paris is

my mom's hometown and my family's favorite vacation destination. Then in 1999, how can anyone forget Brandi Chastain's shootout celebration for the USA's first World Cup championship.

In 2002, my wife and I were in the south of Spain attending a good friend's wedding and we can remember laying out in our resort porch in Fuengirola and hearing the distant roars and the sounds of canons exploding after each goal by the Spaniards. The party scene in Marbella was outstanding after each Spanish team's victory.

I took these pictures in Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade during the South Africa World Cup. It's so good to see the US audiences finally get into this amazing global competition.

With the USA women's semi-final berth, the USA is one game away from reaching its goal of making the finals. If that happens, you better believe that I will be at a bar somewhere to cherish what I hope is another American World Cup championship.

The Beloved Grill at 1913's Lunch Buffet Resurfaces at Bentham's

The weekday lunch buffet at the Grill at 1913 used to be my staple power lunch in the city until The 1913 Room closed its doors in May. The soup and salad bar had all the trimmings equivalent to what you'd find in most European antipasto buffets. And for a heartier option, the carving station with prime rib, pork loin and salmon en croute can't get
more satisfying for a city lunch.

Don't despair because the Grill's buffet has been salvaged by the Amway Grand Plaza at the hotel's riverfront restaurant, Bentham's. For the price of a martini, you may enjoy the soup and salad bar for $9.95 and the full grill menu for $16.95.

The Summer Belongs to the Grand Woods Lounge

Starfarm at the Woods
As much as I feel like I'm the oldest guy in the place, nothing beats the outdoor bar at the Grand Woods Lounge in Grand Rapids. Whether it is the amazing killer 80's cover band, Starfarm, or the mash-mixing of DJ Danimal, the summer late night scene belongs to the Woods.  If the weather is beautiful, you can be assured that GR's most alluring personalities will be hanging out at this joint just southwest of the Van Andel Arena. Thirsty? Order the pail of delicious bar concoctions for your gang and be ready to rock and roll all night.
